Writing and publishing books, magazines and newspapers since I was 13,  even that young when starting Renegade Company I understood books were powerful magic. Igniting imaginations, they touch people with messages and images. Writing fiction, I gravitated to novels based in human experience; powerful and compelling. Writing how-to and self-help books, I learned an author doesn’t enlighten anyone. The reader, looking for a way to make life better searches for answers, finding them in a book. Readers are the true how-to, and the real self-help. Seeking answers, they change their life, not the author.

Making films and teaching filmmaking, I saw movies as stories that came alive on the screen. I learned the viewer understood a film based on their life experiences, and what a movie could do is give them a life experience they hadn’t had. Be part of different world, a different place, a different time. They could be on the screen, part of the story, engaged, moved, and touched.

Today, I see no line between a story, a book, a movie, or life itself. It starts with life, goes to a page, onto a screen, then becomes part of a life . That’s what makes movies magic. They are life the way we wish it could be, or afraid it may end up. What‘s on the screen is a reflection of the audience. A flight of whimsey, a tear in the eye. It is the same wherever people dream.

And that’s why I love my company name.

Wherever. 

Wherever books are sold. Wherever movies are watched. Wherever people live and dream. That’s where we want to be. Wherever a story comes from, it can go wherever it needs to be seen. A person puts themselves into a book or movie.. Always. The book or movie is the house, the reader or viewer the occupant. A house without someone living there? Not a home.

My mission is to tell stories that last forever.
